Skyrim: The Thieves Guild

Very early on I came across a very strange looking gem. I can't remember where I found but it gave me a task to get it valued in Riften. So I thought it was about time I found out how much it was worth and travelled to Riften by stage coach.
Unusual Gem

Upon arrival I asked a local begger about finding an appraiser and he directed me to someone in the Thieves Guild.

The guild refused to help me unless I help them with a few things (you don't get anything for nothing in Skyrim).

I set about doing a few quests for them. This involved doing a lot of sneaking around, completing quests without killing anyone. The Thieves Guild don't like you drawing attention to yourself.

On one quest to steal a crate of very fine wine from Solitudes Blue Palace I happen to cross paths with someone how was looking for their master (no name given). Their master was also in the Blue Palace so I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone. How difficult can it be to find someone and tell them that their lackey is looking for them?

Stealing the wine was easy but my search for the guy lead me to a haunted part of the palace where it is forbidden to go (that figures!).

Walking though the forbidden, dusty, cobweb invested rooms expecting to be jumped upon by a ghost for that "shit your pants" moment I'm instantly transported to somewhere outside to a clearing with a large dinning table set with a load of food but only two men dinning. And for extra "oh no, what have I landed myself in for" factor I no longer had my spells, weapons or equipment.

As I interrupt them one of them vanishes and the other one, Sheogorath, just happens to be the person I'm looking for and explains that I've found myself in the mind of the guy who's just vanished, Pelagius, who is a sandwich short of a picnic (i.e. mad). Sheogorath tells me that he'll leave with me if I can escape the mind the Pelagius and to stir things up even further he gives me a staff called Wabbajack which does some really strange shit when used.
Sheogorath: Daedric Prince of Madness

Eventually, I escape and Sheogorath leaves too and lets me keep the Wabbajack. Using it is very unpredictable, I've used it a couple of times but I have no idea what it does. I guess I'll find out sooner or later.

So, I'm now a member of the Thieves Guild and I finally found out about that weird gem. It's a kind of special gem, part of a collection of 24 and for it to be valuable I'm going to find the full set. Great, a collection quest!
